Black Water

Did you know water and sewage damages are separated in 3 different categories? These categories are based on the type of the loss, what type of fluid has contaminated the area, the size of the contaminated area and how the adjoining walls are affected.  Sewage damages are considered a Category 3 loss aka “Black Water”.  Which is the worse of categories. The fluid of Category 3 losses contains disease – causing organisms, toxins, and is unsanitary. The mitigation crew will wear all the appropriate PPE (personal protection equipment) when in the compromised area. Objects contaminated by the sewage such as carpet, padding, and sheetrock must be removed for disposed. The area will be treated and sanitized with an antimicrobial to kill micro-organisms on site. Once the affected area has been properly mitigated and treated, the drying process will begin.
